In what has to be one of the most unusual pairings of Hollywood and the tech industry, Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant can now guide you through an exploratory audio adventure focused on solving the mystery of Batman’s murdered parents. The new game, called “The Wayne Investigation,” is the product of a partnership between Amazon, DC Comics, and Warner Bros., according to a report today from Variety. It’s designed to be a kind of marketing plug for the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice film, which comes out on March 25th.
Once you’ve enabled the overall game in the skills portion of the Alexa app, you can start the knowledge with, “Alexa, wide open the Wayne Investigation.” From there, Amazon’s application will show you through Gotham City, where one can interview other character types, find clues, and help to make as much as 37 decisions that branch the story in several ways. The choose-your-own-adventure script was come up with by DC Comics writers with help from Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder’s production company, Cruel & Unusual Films.
“The Wayne Investigation”is out today, so owners of Amazon’s Echo speaker or the latest Fire TV set-top box should check the Alexa app to get the update. After the story comes to a close, you’ll be able to ask Alexa for Dawn of Justice showtimes, which is a solid reminder that this is still just an advertisement wrapped up in a neat audio game. Still, Amazon’s first movie promotion with Alexa is yet more proof its voice assistant has huge potential beyond playing music and ordering stuff online.
