Roger Federer defeated 18-year old and world ranked 84, Coric, who had defeated Andy Murray in the previous round to advance to the finals of the Dubai Tennis Tournament. He meets Serbian Novak Djokovic in the finals.
The shock win of Coric over Andy Murray 6-1 6-3 could not proceed further, and he was taken care of by Roger Federer who is all set meet Djokovic on Saturday final in Dubai. Djokovic defeated Tomas Berdych 6-0 5-7 6-4 to advance to the final. Federer took a 2-0 lead in the first set against Coric, but lost his serve with a double fault and a netted forehand. However, the 17-time Grand Slam winner took advantage of the brittle serves of his opponent, and broke his service twice to win the first set. In the second set, Federer took an early facile lead of 5-1, and he wrapped up the match easily as the effort of the 18-year old ended at the net. He won the second set easily often charging to the net, and the opponent’s forehand being long. After the match, Federer said that in the second set when the score was 5 games in his favor, he knew the outcome.
Djokovic also looked well set to sail to the final when he won the first set 6-0, but he lost the second 5-7. However, he pulled his strength in the third set, and was able to win the hard fought set 6-4. Federer and Djokovic are now set to clash in the finals. Both are seasoned tennis players, and their battle for supremacy will once again be on display this Saturday.
