Notre Dame should have joined the B1G instead of the ACC. That would solve the UM issue, the MSU and Purdue issue and open up more rivalries between OSU and PSU etc.
The fact that they have played each other a total of 42 times makes me question the use of the word “rivalry” in the context of UM – ND football games.
ND is better off not playing Michigan. That way, they can say they won the last game between the two and conveniently forget that Michigan leads the series, 24-17-1. They can also forget that, even with some of the worst Michigan teams since 1968, Michigan won four of their last six games.
To know how important Michigan tradition is to Jim Harbaugh, you don’t have to look any farther than his hat, which uses the same “M” logo worn by his old Wolverines coach and Michigan legend Bo Schembecler.
So it’s no surprise that when asked about the possibility of renewing the Wolverines’ traditional rivalry with Notre Dame, Harbaugh indicated Tuesday that he’d be “open” to playing the Irish again.
“I’d probably have a conversation with coach [Brian] Kelly about that before anyone else, that’d be the best course of action,” Harbaugh said on the Big Ten coaches’ teleconference, per MLive.com. “But I would be open to it, yes.”
