A 35-year old man namely Alex Larke, currently performing with the Rolling Clones, competes for the U.K. in the Eurovision Song Contest in May. Alex, who comes from Hertfordshire, would team up with Kent’s Bianca Nicholas, 26, with the song Electro Velvet. The contest, this year, is scheduled to be held in Vienna on 23rd May.

Molly Smitten-Downes duo representing the U.K., last year, had been placed at 17th spot with the song Children of the Universe. After 2003, the U.K. had been placed in the top ten only once in 2009 when Jade Ewan achieved 5th place with the song “It’s My Time” written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It was in 1997 that U.K. won the contest when Katrina and the Waves represented it with the song “Love Shine a Light.”

Larke Teams Up Bianca with Electro Velvet as UK Entry for Eurovision in May in ViennaBianca Nicholas had contested The Voice on BBC in 2013, but got no favors from any of the judges, and could not go any farther from the initial heats. In 2011, she, however, came out with single, Hold on to Your Dreams, which entered the top 100 chart of singles due to the sale of adequate copies of it. She has been suffering from cystic fibrosis, a serious genetic condition that adversely affects lungs. She has on many an occasion told about improvement in her breathing and functioning of lungs due to the singing. Due to her being affiliated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, she got the opportunities of singing in the presence of Royal Family members at some charity galas. Larke, on the other hand, belonging to Welwyn Garden City, has been famous for performing all around the world in association with Rolling Stones tribute act. He besides performing and singing, also teaches in a primary school. He has humbly said that he was immensely privileged to represent the U.K. in the 60th anniversary event, the Eurovision Song Contest, in Vienna. He added that he and Bianca had a fantastic song to sing, and they both would leave no stone unturned to make their great nation proud. Party time was hopefully due, he added.

Electro Velvet, the song selected for the gala event, has been written by David Mindel and Adrian Bax White, and has been chosen through a process open to all. There were hundreds of entries from both amateur and professional song writers, and Electro Velvet was finally selected for the big occasion. Since, the last Eurovision Song Contest was won by Austria’s Conchita Wurst; hence, this year it will be organized in her home country.
