The Police and Army of Egypt’s restive Sinai Peninsula have been targeted by recent bomb attacks which have killed two people while injuring more than 30, according to the officials.
A civilian driver was found dead in El-Arish as a suicide bomber target the police compound. Later another roadside bomb explosion beside an armoured vehicle killed a soldier.
As per the al-Yawm al-Sabaa newspaper, Sinai Province which is the Islamic State affiliated jihadist group has accepted their involvement in the first attack.
Since the fall of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi by the military in 2013, Sinai Militants have killed hundreds of police and soldiers.
According to the security officials, during the first attack, the suicide bomber first drove a water tanker which was filled with explosives at the rear entrance of the gate of police compound in El-Arish. However, police started to fire on it as soon as the vehicle approached. The fire eventually detonated the explosives which consequentially killed the bomber and another civilian worker who was driving by the compound.
Hani Abdul Latif, the interior ministry spokesman, said that the death toll could have been massive only if the bomber had been able to enter the police compound.
