The long anticipated Sony Xperia Z4 is not due to be released at least until the IFA 2015 trade show, and even today there is still much speculation on what features will be available on the phone- if it comes out at all. Recent rumors have been circling the smart phone forums for some time now, implying that the Xperia Z4 smart phone will never be released based on the suspicion that Sony is now trying to break out of the smart phone industry. Are the rumors true? Let’s investigate.
Unlike the Z2 and Z3, the Sony Z4 is thought to be the only smart phone released by the company for 2015- if it comes out at all. The Z4 had originally been believed to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2015 trade shown in the beginning of March, however it never did make it’s big appearance. Could Sony be increasing suspense and waiting for the next trade show to unveil their next masterpiece? Despite the rumors of the Z4’s cancellation, it is much more likely that the latest and greatest Xperia smart phone is simply delayed for release.
In a recent account hack at Sony, e-mails between the Michael Lynton (Sony’s CEO) and George Leon (the executive VP of consumer marketing) have supposedly leaked small details of the Z4’s release and starring role in one of the new Bond movies, and hinting at the suggestion that Daniel Craig, the current James Bond, and director Sam Mendes may take part in the style and design of the new Xperia model. The leaked information implies that the Xperia Z4 will be released in November at the latest, and May at the earliest. This rumor, if correct, that puts the expected release of the newest Sony smart phone right around the IFA 2015.
In regards to design, it’s been speculated that the Xperia Z4 will come in a 5.5 inch body with a dual HD (2560X1440) screen. Essentially, this means it will be comparable in style and size to the past Xperia models. Unfortunately, the re-utilization of the past designs opens this new Sony model to the same hazard of accumulating water and dust throughout the body-a huge problem found in the past models. Leaked photos of the Z4 show the SIM card has been relocated to the left edge of the phone, the SD slot has been removed, and there are now speaker openings at the top and bottom of the phone.
Overall, although the Xperia Z4’s existence and release still seems like a hushed mystery, it is likely that the delay on it’s unveiling is exactly that- a delay. Still, not much is known about the electronics’s functions, capabilities, and design aside from what can be seen on a few leaked photos. As time moves us closer to IFA 2015, keep an eye out for Sony to (hopefully) become more transparent regarding the unveiling of the 2015 Xperia Z4
