A terrifying video has been released by Al-Shabaab, a Somali terror group, which features a masked terrorist reciting a list of possible target locations for an attack. These locations included London’s Oxford Street, which has more than 300 shops and welcomes over 5 million people each week, and its two Westfield shopping malls in White City and Stratford, which were identified by the GPS coordinates that the terrorist read out. Also on their list was the Mall of America in Minnesota, which receives about 40 million visitors each year, and is the largest shopping mall in the country.
The terrorist, who has a strong English accent, referred to the attack on the Westfield Mall in Kenya, where 62 people died, and stated how even more devastation could be caused by an attack on these other malls. Counter-terrorism police in the UK are currently investigating the video, whilst US homeland security has warned the public to be extra careful if visiting the Mall of America today. They have extra security measures in place, only some of which are visible to shoppers, whilst the others are more discreet.
The video, which lasts for over an hour, calls for independent supporters in the named countries to carry out the attacks themselves. In the past, terrorist groups would have had to specially send in people for this purpose, but now, with the help of technology, this is no longer necessary, and it is much easier and quicker for the groups to recruit new helpers.
