Actor Benedict Cumberbatch is known around the world for his role as Sherlock, as well for The Imitation Game. He married his pregnant fiance, Sophie Hunter, after a short engagement, in a ceremony that the couple tried their best to keep as secret as possible.
The 38 year old star had a private wedding ceremony on Valentine’s day, at a church on the Isle of Wight. They kept the ceremony relatively low-key and invited about 100 members of their family and close friends. Among the guests were Hollywood stars Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford, Sandra Bullock and Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty in Sherlock.
Many fans made their way to the island that day, in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the star and his 36 year old wife. Unfortunately for them, a security company’s van blocked the entrance of the church, obstructing their view of the happy couple, who left the church in a classic Jaguar. Rather than posing for photos, guests headed straight to the reception.
The engagement was announced in The Times in November, much to the disappointment of Cumberbatch’s many female fans. Cumberbatch had tried to deter rumours about the ceremony last month by telling fans that it would be a long engagement. He claimed that his main focus at the moment was resuming the filming of Sherlock, as that would be very time consuming. The pair are said to have started dating last spring.
The couple’s baby is expected during the summer and they both eagerly await the birth of their child.
