HYPER: A New Model for Exploring Dark Matter Through Highly Interactive Particle Relics

A team of researchers has proposed a new candidate for dark matter: HYPER, or “HighlY Interactive ParticlE Relics.” In the HYPER model, a phase transition in the early universe changes the strength of interaction between dark and normal matter. This could explain the abundance of dark matter and make it detectable in experiments. The team—Robert McGehee, Aaron Pierce, and Gilly Elor—calculated the amount of dark matter that exists in the universe and simulated the phase transition. The model covers almost the full parameter range of planned experiments, and the research is published in Physical Review Letters.
