Actor and comedian John Witherspoon is dead. He was known for his roles in films such as “Vampire in Brooklyn” or “Friday.” Witherspoon was 77 years old.
As his family confirmed, actor died Tuesday in his home. “In deep sadness, we announce that our beloved husband and father John Witherspoon, one of the men who worked hardest in show business, died today in his home in Sherman Oaks at the age of 77,” states a statement that exists on the US portal “Deadline”.
Family asks for privacy
“We are all in shock, please give us a moment of rest and then we can celebrate his life and work together,” the family continues in the statement.
The American began his career as a model for department store catalogs, then started as a stand-up comedian and thus appeared on television. He was nominated for the BET Comedy Award in 2004 for his role on The Tracy Morgan Show.
He has appeared in numerous films
His first major role was Witherspoon in 1987 in the movie “Hollywood Shuffle”, after which he was seen in the film “Boomerang”, “Vampire in Brooklyn”, “Next Friday” or “Little Man”. His last appearance was in the series “Anger Management” in 2014.
